This is great!

Over the page in the Prologue (see previous post) and I’m introduced to the photographer Jan Bułhak (1876-1950), of whom I’ve never heard of until just now. In short he’s a famous Polish photographer, but as you start to look at his life you discover that he was born in a part of Russia that’s now Belarus and spent a large part of his life in Vilnius, or Wilno as it was known at the time, having recently changed hands from the Russia, via the German occupation of the city during WWI, to Poland.

Bułhak also wrote. Get this.

True Wilno remains closed and silent to snobs. Is it worth it to reveal your real treasures to souvenir-hunting vandals and ignorant blockheads? The city speaks softly of simple and noble things, and does not open up for everyone.

Beer!
