A branch of Curonian grafted itself somehow onto the Samogitian language, Samogitian being the English translation of Žemaitijan (see below). The language of Žemaitija as already mentioned was the template for modern Lithuanian. My early notes from last week include a list of the main tribes that the Lithuanians are descended from.
